UKBA(cert) supervision
Supervised practice towards UK-SBA certification, mapped to the competence framework and evidenced as you go.
What supervised practice involves
Certification as a UKBA(cert) requires a period of supervised practice alongside an approved postgraduate course. What you have to evidence is set out in the UK-SBA Competence Framework: eight competence areas covering assessment, intervention, ethics, collaboration, research and reflective practice, and 85 individual knowledge and skill items within them.
The framework is deliberately broad. Knowledge and skill items are not operationally defined, so competence can be evidenced in ways that suit your area of practice. Our expertise is in children and young people with autism and learning disabilities, in homes, schools and early years settings.
How we work
You drive the agenda
You bring the competence items you are working towards and the evidence you have gathered. We will tell you where something is close, where it is not there yet, and what would make the difference.
A written record each time
Discussion points, any references we covered, and what you are taking away before next time. That record forms part of your evidence, and it is included rather than charged separately.
Direct observation
Some competence areas require observed practice. This can be arranged in person, or by live video call.
Before we can start
A few things need to be in place, and they are worth checking early because some take time to arrange.
- Registered with the UK-SBA as a Practising Member or UKiBA
- Started the first module of behaviour-analytic content on a UK-SBA approved course
- A signed supervision contract between us
- Access to enough clients and settings to evidence all the competence areas
- Your employer's agreement to our involvement with the cases we discuss
- Parental consent and client assent where cases are in schools, and separate consent for any observation
If you are not sure where you stand on any of these, that is worth a conversation before anything else.

We take a maximum of five supervisees at any one time, so that supervision stays properly attentive. We currently have capacity for new supervisees.
